Team building games for the training room, on the phones people already have

No printing, no laminated cards, no adding up scores on a flipchart. Participants scan a QR code with their own phone, the scoreboard goes on the projector, and you keep your attention on the room. The same games work when half the group is remote.

Ranking

4 – 500 participants · 30 – 45 min + debrief · 8 credits per participant

The classic survival exercise, with the arithmetic done for you. Individual rankings, team rankings and the synergy score appear on the leaderboard the moment the last person submits, so the debrief starts while the energy is still high.

Loud, fast and physical: teams sit together, describe their images, argue about the order and lock in an answer against the clock. Rounds get shorter as teams get better, and the whole room can see it.

How the session goes

Before, during, after

  1. Step 1

    Before

Create the session and print, or simply project, the QR code. Rehearse once with a colleague's phone so you have seen what participants see. Check the room's wifi or ask people to use mobile data; the games are light.

  2. Step 2

    During

Participants scan the code, enter their name and join their team. Put the facilitator screen on the projector when you want the room to see the scoreboard, and on your laptop when you don't. Pause whenever a team needs a minute.

  3. Step 3

    After

Use the scoreboard and the synergy scores as the raw material for the debrief. The debrief template in your account gives you the questions; the room gives you the answers.

Debrief

Questions that turn the game into learning

  1. 1Which team improved the most between rounds, and what did they change?
  2. 2Where did the individual answers beat the team answer, and why?
  3. 3What did you notice about how your team made its final decision?
  4. 4What is one thing from this game you will take back to work tomorrow?

Questions

What if the wifi in the room is poor?

The games are built for phones on mobile data; a normal 4G connection is enough. Ask participants to switch off the venue wifi if it is slow.

Can I project the scoreboard?

Yes. The facilitator screen is a web page; put it on the projector or a second screen whenever you want the room to see it.

Can a colleague run the session with me?

Yes. Add facilitators to your account for free; each gets their own login and credits are shared.

Rehearse it for free before your first real group

Sign up in two minutes, get 100 free credits, and rehearse any game as often as you like — sessions with up to 2 participants are always free.
